Samsung’s Latest Gun-Toting Robot

By

Samsung’s Intelligent Surveillance and Security Guard Robot is being developed by their Techwin unit thanks to funding from the Korean government. To keep a vigil for intruders, the armed-and-dangerous bot has two cameras–one for daytime watch and another, infrared one for the night–and a laser rangefinder. Nothing was mentioned about what round the gun uses, but if I had to guess I would say something small as the housing can’t store that many rounds. More on it can be found on the SamsungTechwin website.

Would someone please tell the folks at Samsung about Isaac Asimov’s three laws of robotics? Specifically, the very first one, which says in its entirety: “A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.” That’s not at all the spirit of this machine-gun-toting robotic sentry that Samsung is working on.
