Red Bull Training Grounds Ends with Golden as Champion

The first Red Bull Training Grounds StarCraft II Tournament is a wrap with Jo Myeong Hwan aka “Golden” coming out on top to with the $2500 in prize money for first place. As we noted in our coverage earlier, Red Bull assembled eight of the world’s best StarCraft II players to hold a sort-of ‘training camp’ or tune-up event leading into this summer’s MLG Anaheim event. Not only was there over $8,000 in prize money, but Red Bull pulled out all the stops inviting eSports on-air talent Sean “Day[9]” Plott, Mike “Husky” Lamond and Ben “MrBitter” Nichol to do play-by-play and in-depth match analysis. At one point during the championship match on Sunday, there were close to 50,000 viewers tuned in to Red Bull’s TwichTV channel. Very impressive for an inaugural event!

After three days of battle and over 20 hours of expert play and in-depth analysis for the pros and their fans tuning into the live digital broadcast, Zerg player Golden was able to topple Sound and emerge as the first ever Red Bull Training Grounds champion, taking home the an official trophy and $2,500 in prizing. All invited players will be getting together today for a wind tunnel skydiving group adventure before heading off to their next big tournament.
