Radeon RX Vega Coming This Quarter According to AMD

By

Are you ready to board the hype train? AMD Poland has uploaded an image promoting the AMD Ryzen and Radeon brands only to get a user to ask them ‘when will Vega be ready?’ AMD actually responded with ‘when it is ready and it will be this quarter’ (see the image below with the translation). Maybe someone at AMD said a little too much, but we’ll take it and run with it as it confirms that AMD Vega will be arriving this quarter. The bad news is that second quarter just started April 1st and lasts until June 30th. That means AMD Vega fans have possibly over 2 more months to wait for the cards release.

In the meantime the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is the card to beat and it will be interesting to see if AMD Vega will be able to topple NVIDIA’s latest offering as the recently released Radeon RX 580 (Polaris GPU based) is not aimed at the same price category. AMD is showing off the Vega GPU at the NAB show in the Las Vegas this week and it appears they are showing that the GPU can handle 4K and 8K video processing in Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017. Hard to get any performance data from that for gamers, but the card is running demos at the show and that is a good sign.

We first saw AMD Vega running at CES 2017, so AMD has had working development cards for nearly five months now. We’ve been told that AMD has pulled in a large number of people to work on drier optimizations for Vega, so it will be interesting to see how the AMD Radeon RX Vega graphics card performs when it is released. Maybe the move to HBM2 memory and all the AI optimizations they are doing for machine learning as well as Vega OpenGL support for Linux has proven to be more complicated than they first expected. Many enthusiasts and gamers are hopeful that they will get to see some actual numbers or a launch at Computex 2017 in Taiwan and that seems plausible to us.
