Pokemon Releases Magikarp Jump on Android and iOS

By

Growing up while watching the Pokemon TV series and playing the games, many of us are able to say that Magikarp was far from our favorite unless it was in our interests to free up a space for a Gyarados on our team’s lineup. While Pokemon GO was the talk of the town in 2016, it quickly died but, regardless, many aspiring Pokemon masters sought to capture enough Magikarps to collect 400 Magikarp candy to evolve into a Gyarados. With Magikarp’s popularity at its pique, it makes sense that this useless Pokemon would become a fan favorite. Luckily, for those who have grown accustomed to this orange fish, Pokemon has just released Magikarp Jump on both Android and iOS platforms.

Those of us going into Magikarp Jump (knowing at least the very basics of the fish) know that this Pokemon is very limited in terms of power and abilities. For example (assuming you know nothing about Pokemon) suppose you’re out fishing with your friends and you catch a 3oz mackerel. Then, your friend asks you if you wanna try a real life Pokemon battle. Curious, you aggree to the duel. Your friend calls out to his rottweiler who comes running and eats your fish. That basically sums up Magikarp.

In Magikarp Jump, you’ll be able to train your Pokemon. The tutorial goes over training the move ‘Tackle’ over and over again as well as a leveling system. You’ll be able to find different types of Magikarp with a number of different patterns and colors. Players will also be able to compete to see which of their Magikarps can jump the highest. Magikarp Jump is completely free to download and play but just like almost every other Pokemon game available on Android and iOS, you have the option of paying for microtransactions that help aid you in the game. This isn’t a game for hardcore gamers (clearly) but it seems like something that could easily occupy your fingertips to pass the time.
