Discovery 925 in the Real World
The Discovery 925 is loaded with a ton of features, but all of the features and technical innovation that a headset has means nothing if the user can’t communicate effectively with the party on the other end. Sound quality out of the device was the best we have heard from any Bluetooth set we have reviewed. For a headset that is not your typical “in-the-ear”, the sound came across crisp and clear. There are three levels of volume that a user can toggle through and they all seemed louder than some of our highest ranking headsets.
In the past, loud environments have been the Achilles heel of superb headsets like the Jawbone. Even though the Aliph Jawbone headset had superior noise cancellation for the user – in other words, the party on the other end could hear the speaker no matter what environment they were in – the speaker was not as powerful as we would have liked and it made it very hard. Many times, I would use the Jawbone in a crowded area and the person I was talking to could hear me with no problem, but as soon as they said something, it was drowned out by all the noise around me. Plantronics has equipped the Discovery 925 with a very clear and loud speaker driver so when you can hear your party quite well in loud environments.
The automatic noise cancellation circuitry packed in the Discovery’s AudioIQ DSP is very, very good. It doesn’t top the Jawbone (or even the Qstik EVOQ), but the differences don’t seem to make that much of a difference when you compare how well the Plantronics Discovery 925 does in projecting sound from its speakers. Sound quality was excellent and the volume was the loudest we have heard short of an earbud.
Because of the unique design of the Discovery 925, we were able to wear the headset throughout the day with no ear fatigue whatsoever. The 925’s controls were very responsive toward both the Treo and the iPhone. Calls were transferred quickly well before the first ring on outgoing calls and incoming calls were recognized quickly. We had no issues at all with any of the hands-free functions.
Overall, we think the Plantronics Discovery 925 earpiece is the best overall Bluetooth headset we have tested here at Legit Reviews. The combination of size, features, and comfort is enough to put this headset in front of a strong field. The addition of a rechargeable carrying case and the best sound quality and volume by far over other headsets, helps solidify the Discovery 925 as an incredible headset to own. You can find the Discovery 925 for around $90 on the street, and we think it well worth it. We have to give the nod to the Plantronics Discovery 925 in overall performance. Using the headset proved to be one of the best experiences we have had.
Even with all the features the Discovery 925 has as well as the technical innovation Plantronics introduced and mastered in the Discovery 925, it really doesn’t make a difference unless you can hear your party on the other end.
Legit Bottom Line:
At $149.95, the Plantronics Discovery 925 carries one of the highest list prices we have reviewed here at Legit for a Bluetooth headset, but overall, we think it is money well spent. Besides the rechargeable carrying case and innovative fit, the overall sound and active noise cancelation features are a combination that no Bluetooth headset that we have seen can match.
