Online jobs index rises to record high

A monthly index of online recruitment rose to a record level in May, reflecting hiring demand in most industries, Monster Worldwide Inc. said on Thursday.

he parent of job-hunting Web site Monster.com said its Monster Employment index was up 4 points to a record high of 167 in May. The two-year-old index had dipped by 1 point in April. The index, which Monster said is a strong predictor of overall U.S. demand for workers, is up 25 percent over the past year. Online demand for workers rose in seasonal industries, including accommodation and food service, agriculture and utilities. Finance and insurance, health care, as well as arts and entertainment also posted more help-wanted ads during the month.
