Next Generation of Sony on Display at E3 2016

SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AMERICA LLC LOGOSony opened their conference with an epic orchestra bringing in the return of the brutal hack and slash epic we know as God of War. The gameplay footage shows an aged Kratos mentoring a young man as they hunt a sizable deer. Through their hunt Kratos casually takes down new mythical creatures who hint that the new foes of God of War will hail from Valhalla.

As Virtual Reality becomes the next step in gaming Sony holds no punches as they show multiple titles releasing for their PlayStation VR. Surprisingly most the titles showcased were not new games, but VR versions of series that players have loved for years. As expected horror shall play an important role in VR and Sony shows a chilling gameplay trailer of the player searching through a creepy building while a blood covered figure lurks around. This gameplay of Capcoms Resident Evil: Biohazard is set to be released January 24, 2017.

The nostalgia continues with Final Fantasy XV showing a VR gunplay scene where the player and three other players take on an enormous Chimera. The most interesting part of this display was how teleporting was made a simple and effective mechanic during the battle. One of the last big titles BattleFront: X-wing Mission throws the gamer into the cockpit of a X-Wing fighter and completely immerses them into the intense dog fights that took place while trying to take down the Death Star.

Sony has promised these titles will be included in the original fifty that will be available when the Playstation VR releases this year on October 13 for $399.99.

Sony concludes their conference with a demo of their upcoming post-apocalyptic zombie game Days Gone. Days Gone is played from a third person point of view, and seems to be focused of more running than fighting as the zombies not only travel in immense hordes, but the also run! Days Gone looks to give its players the visuals of Resident Evil with the fast pace of Left 4 Dead.

With mentions of other games such as the new Lego Star Wars and Crash Bandicoot, Sony seems to have hit all points this year giving them the definite edge in this year’s E3.
