BFG Tech Enters Mobo Market & First Review

Here is the the first review of BFG's first motherboard!  The sexily named "BFGRNF4U" is BFG Tech?s introduction to the wonderful world of motherboards. See just how well their non-SLI nForce4 Ultra solution stacks up to the competition.  It's not the prettiest board I've seen, but it's a start.

"The BFG Tech BFGRNF4U is currently priced a bit higher than the competition, but does come with BFG?s stellar support. Still this may not be enough of a value for many consider the price delta. The BFGRNF4U is without a doubt a blindingly fast gaming motherboard that shows a level of stability that is second to none."

Microsoft Moving From Passport to InfoCard

The .NET Passport system proved to be pretty useless to most Internet users, myself included, because of it's cross platform limitaions. If Microsoft can achieve true interoperability in it's new InfoCard System, along with the user control and flexibility it promises, there's no doubt that consumers would use a service that would make their daily online experience less complex.

Microsoft said its architecture for the identity metasystem, called WS-* Web Services, is supposed to provide greater user control and flexibility. For example, users decide how much information they disclose, to whom and under what circumstances, thereby enabling them to better protect their privacy, which would rely on strong two-way authentication of identity providers and relying parties, the white paper explained.

In addition, the InfoCard is more flexible about how the personal information is stored. Microsoft said it could be via an online identity provider service of the user's choice, on the user's PC or in other devices such as secure USB keychain storage devices, smartcards, PDAs, and mobile phones.

Infineon Collaborates with IBM on New Form of Memory

A new form of memory called phase-change memory (PCM) may be on the horizon.  Check out the emerging details on Legit Reviews Forum.

PCM is a technology that stores data by changing the state of a special material from an amorphous to a crystalline structure, rather than storing data as an electrical charge. While in its early stages, the technology shows potential for high speed, high density storage of data, while retaining data even when power is turned off.

Samsung develops flash-based 'disk' for PCs

Samsung Electronics is wasting no time in moving the PC away from conventional hard drives that use a mechanical recording system towards computers using flash-based hard drives that use memory chips to record data.  Samsung says it will begin mass producing these drives in August. One of the main issues for consumers will certainly be the cost of these systems, since flash memory technology is generally more expensive.

Samsung announced basic details of the SSD today but declined to provide any information about its price.

The Seoul, South Korea-based company is planning SSDs with parallel Advanced Technology Attachment interfaces in capacities up to 16GB. The 16GB devices will contain 16 memory chips holding 8GB each, it said. Such chips sell for about $55 each on the spot memory market, according to DRAM Exchange Tech Inc. That would put the chip cost of the 16GB SSD at almost $900.

Nvidia to introduce mobile SLI

I acutally remember Fuad talking to nVIDIA about this last fall, but seems he is just now posting something up after getting the nod from the folks at nvidia.  Seems as if SLI notebook graphics are coming soon.  Not really a bad idea seeing how new notebooks have MXM slots (PCI-e) already in them.

NVIDIA IS SET to introduce SLI for laptops, a real shocker. This idea actually did cross my mind but I didn?t believe that Nvidia could be that crazy. Apparently it is.

Mobile SLI won't be part of any thin and light notebook - it's of course for heavy desktop replacement machines. Nvidia launched Geforce Go 6800 Ultra cards together with Dell, and those machines are already available but SLI will push the boundaries a little further.

Essentially, the technology that lifted the N-Gage above Nokia's handsets is now ready to be included in phones as well as consoles, the company claimed. In short, what made the N-Gage a console rather than a phone, as Nokia originally maintained, now makes it just another phone among thousands of others. So it really is about phones and not about consoles.
