A Moment of Silence For Keith Suppe Who Passed Away
Legit Reviews just found out that Keith Suppe, who was one of our writers back in 2005, recently passed away due to some health issues. Keith wrote a number of reviews for LR back in 2005 and he passed away before 50, which is way too young. Keith often told me about his crazy life when he worked at Studio 54 in New York at it's peak and how it changed his life forever. He was a good guy and his mark on the hardware industry will live on.
I started life late, as I left school at a young age, due to some family problems, and I guess wanting to rebel against my family's belief money meant everything. Being young and wild I loved the NYC nightlife, and ended up working lighting systems, and sound systems at various dance-clubs. I awoke at 24-years old, from what was really 10-years of addiction, and trauma associated with it. I guess hanging out in NYC after-hour night clubs, i was living in a surreal world. A lot of Artists, and people with money, all wanting to escape in music, drugs, and drinking. It took it's toll, and I knew I was getting old, and feeling very bad about myself. I got into some very intense therapy, and immediately pursued my education.

The new NH-U12P SE2 now supports Intel's upcoming LGA1156 based Core i5 and Core i7 "Lynnfield" CPUs while maintaining compatibility with LGA1366, LGA775 and AM3 processors. The NH-U12P SE2 will be available in stores in mid September at a recommended retail price of EUR 56.90 / USD 64.90.

"Users loved our LGA1366 special edition of the NH-U12P cooler, but many asked whether they could get the same premium package with dual fans for other sockets as well", explains Mag. AMD Announces 40W Six-Core AMD Opteron EE processor - Istanbul
AMD today announced the immediate availability of the new Six-Core AMD Opteron EE processor at 40W ACP. Delivering up to 31 percent higher performance-per-watt over standard Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, the Six-Core AMD Opteron EE processor is tailored to meet the demands of customers who need strong performance, but must trim out every watt possible in a server system and reduce the datacenter’s power draw.

“It’s important for our industry to look at how technology is being used and where customers have emerging needs,” said Patrick Patla, vice president and general manager, Server and Workstation Division. “The AMD Opteron EE processor enables OEMs to deliver energy-sipping servers that don’t compromise on power management, virtualization or performance features. It is specifically designed to help address the challenges that are generating a great deal of discussion these days - building and running very dense data centers for Web services, while doing more with less.”

GIGABYTE GA-GC330UD Mini-ITX - Dual Core Atom Tested @ TweakTown and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!
"First generation Atom processors were based around a very simple x86 core with a 512K L2 cache designed to focus on power savings rather than raw speed. The N270 clocked at 1.6GHz was able to do a very good job for many companies in their Nettops and Netbooks. Power consumption was reduced significantly, but the problem was that more demand was being placed on the core than it could keep up with. Even simple video play back would cause problems if you attempted to do any multi-tasking on them and HD video playback? Don't even bother trying. Neither the CPU nor the IGP could handle the amount of cycles needed for decoding. Atom has now got a boost to its design. Originally it was designed with a single core using hyper threading; the same technology Pentium 4 used to turn a single physical core into two logical processors. But it still wasn't enough. It seems that there is no real substitute for a true second core. Atom 330 is Intel's answer to a dual core low power CPU based around the Atom architecture."

WPA Wi-Fi encryption can be cracked in under a minute
Japanese researchers say they can crack the second generation of Wi-Fi security within a minute, according to an article on yahoo.com. WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) was thought to be secure, and has been used since the first generation of Wi-Fi security, WEP, was found to be crackable. This means that you should use the third generation of wireless security standards - WPA2.
The previous method of attacking WPA devices took up to 15 minutes to be successful, and didn't always work. The new method is said to work on far more devices and, obviously, much more quickly. However, as with the old attack, the new one only works on WPA devices that use the TKIP (Temporal Key Integrity Protocol) algorithm, which is a setting in your router and device setup. WPA devices that use the newer AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) algorithm, plus devices that use WPA2 -- the third generation of wireless security standards -- are still safe for now.

Microsoft cuts Xbox 360 Elite Price By 25 Percent - $299
Microsoft Corp plans to slash the price of its high-end Xbox 360 video game console by $100, or 25 percent, stepping up the price war in the video game console market. Effective Friday, Microsoft will drop the price of the Xbox 360 Elite to $299.99 in the United States, just days after Sony Corp cut the rival PlayStation 3 to $299 from $399.

Analysts have said the cuts will pressure Nintendo Co Ltd to lower the price of its best-selling Wii console, which retails for $249, but for now the company is standing firm. "We don't have such a plan," Nintendo spokesman Yasuhiro Minagawa said when asked about a price cut. Among this generation of game consoles, the Xbox is No. 2 in the United States behind the Wii. But U.S. sales of the Xbox are up 17 percent this year, the only console to show growth.

ASUS plans to launch e-book reader under Eee family
Asustek Computer plans to launch an e-book reader under its Eee brand by the end of 2009 at the earliest, according to company president Jerry Shen. The sources pointed out that the requirements for entering the e-book reader market are even lower than for netbooks, but the key to success lies in establishing a content delivery platform.
Currently, demand for e-book readers is mainly concentrated in North America and Europe, with penetration in Asia markets low due to differences in reading habits, the sources noted. The sources said they are conservative about the business potential e-book readers can bring to Taiwan's PC vendors and content publishers. Meanwhile, Micro-Star International (MSI) is also evaluating the e-book reader market, according to industry sources.
