A look at the AMD Phenom II TWKR Black Edition @ Neoseeker and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!

"So in what different are the internals compared to the Phenom II X4 955? Since it is geared toward the extreme overclocking crowd, it is a high SIDD chip. This is an engineering term which means it has a high leakage. In simpler words, the TWKR processors can be supplied more voltage, thus power, and handle it without any glitch."

Micron Introduces 34nm NAND Flash Products

Micron today introduced new 34nm NAND products, including mass production of a 16Gb chip and a newly architected 32Gb chip. Also as part of the announcement, Lexar will introduce two new products leveraging Micron’s new 34nm NAND die including a 16GB microSDHC and a 32GB SDHC flash card. The new Lexar Platinum II 32GB Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory card that uses 34nm NAND Flash is pictured below.

Lexar Platinum II 32GB SDHC

Micron’s new 16- and 32-gigabit (Gb) NAND chips pair large capacity with performance, providing a compelling solution for today’s demanding portable storage requirements that are tailored to end-customer product dimensions. The newly architected 32Gb multi-level cell (MLC) NAND chip is 17 percent smaller than Micron’s first-generation 32Gb chip. The 16Gb MLC NAND chip, at just 84mm², provides high-capacity in an ultra tiny package. Micron is also now sampling 8- and 16Gb single-level cell (SLC) NAND chips using the 34nm process. Additionally, Lexar Media, Inc. – a subsidiary of Micron and a leading provider of consumer memory products for digital devices – is taking advantage of Micron’s new 34nm NAND products by delivering a wide range of flash memory cards and USB flash drives utilizing this technology.

Mozilla Firefox 3.5 Has Been Relased with HTML 5 Support

Version 3.5 has been, relatively speaking, long in the making. It began its life as what was intended to be a quick and modest upgrade to Firefox 3.0, but the version number expanded along with Mozilla's ambitions for the software. And it is indeed an important release, both because of competitors and because of new Firefox 3.5 features. Be sure to download it here

Mozilla Firefox 3.5

Firefox 3.5 has a host of improvements, some the sort of thing people can notice immediately and some plumbing improvements that could help the Web in the long run. With a release in 70 languages, a lot of people will be able to try. Under the covers but providing a direct benefit it TraceMonkey, the new engine that runs Web page programs written in the common JavaScript language. That will mean Web applications such as Google Docs get faster today and, if JavaScript speed improvements continue, more sophisticated tomorrow.

Could Acer Really Pass Up Dell?

This year, Acer appears poised to overtake Dell as the world’s second-largest seller of personal computers, which would put a real dent into one of America’s favorite dorm-to-empire business stories. And if this comes to pass, Acer would trail only Hewlett-Packard; no computer company based outside the United States has ever climbed so high.

Acer America Website

Acer’s ascent has accelerated during the global economic slowdown. The company made an aggressive move into the market for netbooks — the small, low-cost laptops that have been a rare bright spot during the worst slump the PC industry has ever faced. Dell, which depends far more on PC sales to businesses, has struggled as companies have avoided buying new computers. Last year, Acer’s market share grew by 3 percentage points, to 10.9 percent, while Dell gained just 0.1 percentage point, to 15 percent, according to the research company IDC. Acer has continued to narrow that gap this year, claiming 11.6 percent of the market to Dell’s 13.6 percent through the first quarter.

OLPC operating system now being given away for free

The One Laptop Per Child operating system is now available for free downloading for "any" PC or Netbook, according to its maker. Sugar Labs, responsible for building the low-cost device's XO-1 operating system, released it online last week for loading onto any USB flash drive greater than 1GB. Called "Sugar on a Stick v1," Sugar Labs hopes it will help spread the use of the OS in classrooms, without the need for the OLPC machine.

One Laptop Per Child PC

An IDC analyst said earlier this year that the OS would be one of the OLPC's more attractive aspects that vendors would be interested in copying for the Netbook market. It is based on the Fedora Linux kernel and can be booted from the USB stick without needing to be installed over the hard drive's existing OS.

Microsoft rumored to offer Windows 7 on USB thumb drives

Microsoft is reportedly considering offering Windows 7 on USB thumb drives to allow netbook owners to upgrade their machines. Windows has, until now, only been distributed on DVDs or via download. This is great news for netbooks owners as netbooks don't have optical drives.

The challenge of getting Windows 7 on to older Netbooks threatens to cast a shadow over the technical work Microsoft did to get Windows 7 running on Netbooks. Its predecessor, Windows Vista, proved ill-suited to Netbooks forcing Microsoft to continue selling Windows XP as its answer to the low-cost notebook phenomenon. The Windows 7 ISO weighs in at 2.3GB, which would take several hours to download on an average broadband connection and potentially do serious damage to a customer's broadband data cap. Consequently, the company is exploring alternative means of distributing the OS, including USB flash drives, according to a report.

Gigabyte Says Long-awaited PC Upgrade Cycle Coming

A long-awaited PC upgrade cycle among small and medium-sized businesses may lie just around the corner, according to Tony Liao, associate vice president of worldwide marketing at Gigabyte Technology. Windows 7 is scheduled for release in October and research has shown many businesses are waiting for this new operating system to order new computers.

The upgrade cycle could begin during the fourth quarter of this year as small and medium-sized companies may start replacing older computers with new ones, driven in part by demand for Windows 7, said Tony Liao, associate vice president of worldwide marketing at Gigabyte Technology, who spoke to reporters during a conference call organized by Intel. "Windows Vista was not so popular and not so suitable, in general," Liao said, adding that by comparison Windows 7 should give users more reasons to buy a new PC.

Consumers Are Dissatisfied with Netbooks

A new survey shows that a lot of consumers who buy netbooks may be dissatisfied with their purchases. In late spring, consultant NPD surveyed 600 online consumers to gauge their impressions of the popular mini-laptops called netbooks. The survey yielded some surprising results: Sixty percent of consumers thought that netbooks would function exactly like regular laptops. As a result, only 58% of consumers who purchased a netbook instead of a laptop were satisfied with their purchase.

Consumers aren’t using their netbooks as intended, for light Web browsing and e-mail via Wi-Fi or 3G wireless networks outside the home. Some 60% of the netbooks purchased never leave the house, according to NPD. After making their purchase, many users realize the netbooks’ chips aren’t as fast and capable as those of laptops, and don’t support video as well.
