Dell profit falls 63 percent as PC sales stay soft
Dell said Thursday its fiscal first-quarter profit fell 63 percent as the recession continued to crimp computer sales around the world. The results, coupled with a cautious outlook from the world's top PC seller, Hewlett-Packard, indicate that the computer market has not improved much since last year's economic meltdown led to a holiday season that was the industry's worst stretch in six years.
Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd, has expressed similar caution. Speaking at an investor conference Thursday, Hurd would not say when he thought the PC market would begin to rebound. That is in contrast to Paul Otellini, the CEO of Intel, the world's biggest supplier of PC microprocessors, who has said sales already appear to have bottomed out and returned to normal seasonal patterns.

Icon Incar and NVIDIA have created what may be the world’s first three-dimensional digital instrument cluster. Here is a YouTube video clip of the first non-branded prototype of a digital instrument cluster demo running on NVIDIA automotive SOC using OpenGL ES2. Concept, design and programming by icon incar GmbH.
“Well-known computer graphics company NVIDIA and mobile solutions company icon icar have teamed up to develop a 3-D gauge cluster for cars. If the above image — and one below — are any indication, they should have automakers lining up to get these in future cars.”

Kingwin XT-1264 Review @ OCC and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!
"This heatsink is a little different than most ones that use 120mm fans in the fact that you can see the copper heatpipes on the bottom. It would appear that Kingwin is trying to get it so that the heatpipes come into direct contact with the CPU, which could actually improve heat dissipation since there is no other source of metal between the CPU and heatsink that would require more time for heat transfer. Apart from the heatpipes being copper, the rest of the heatsink is purely aluminum. Additionally, this heatsink only comes packaged with one fan and it would appear that it is not capable of using additional clips to secure another one to it, so one would have to resort to zipties for a push/pull configuration."

Super Talent Releases Upgrade SSDs for Dell Inspiron Mini 9
Super Talent Technology introduced faster and larger capacity upgrade modules for the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 netbook PC today. The modules come in two form factors, the standard Half Mini PCIe form factor and Super Talent's innovative Double Wide Half Mini PCIe form factor. Both families of products feature a custom IDE/PATA interface used in the Mini 9 netbook. Pricing starts at $74.99 for the 16GB version and goes up from there.

"For the first time ever Mini 9 users can upgrade their netbooks with a high performance 128GB SSD without any case modifications. We installed the hardware in less than 60 seconds and reinstalled the operating system in less than 30 minutes. We started thinking about how we could better solve our customers' problems, when we saw them posting videos online sawing their case apart to put in larger SSDs. So we innovated and invented the Double Wide Half Mini PCIe form factor to make upgrading to a high capacity SSD a whole lot easier."

Time Warner to spin off AOL
Media giant Time Warner announced Thursday morning that it will cast off its AOL division to become a standalone company. Before that separation can take place, Time Warner will buy the 5 percent of AOL owned by Google so that it will have 100 percent control of AOL. Time Warner expects the transaction with Google to take place in the third quarter and the final AOL spinoff around the end of the year.
The separation of AOL from Time Warner will put a final nail in the coffin of one of the emblematic mergers of the dot-com boom and bust. Brimming with the abundant funds and hyper-optimism of the Web's go-go years, AOL--then known as America Online--acquired Time Warner in January 2001 to create the world's largest media company. Within a year, however, it was already apparent that the union of new and old media was not as "supercharged" as its backers had promised.

Thermaltake Toughpower XT W0229RU 750W Modular Power Supply Review @ Tweaknews and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!
"At around $200, the XT is at the very top of its class, both in features and cost. While the XT has great specs, a generous and innovative feature set and outstanding components and efficiency, 200 bones still seems a bit excessive for a 750W PSU these days. Don't get me wrong, this is an excellent power supply and the five-tear warranty sweetens the deal a bit, but the high cost almost kept it off the Top Rank list."

Kingston Announces World's First 12GB Triple-Channel DDR3 HyperX Memory Kit
If you thought having 6GB of memory was impressive you haven't seen anything yet. Kingston Technology Company today announced it is first to market with DDR3 1600MHz 12GB triple-channel memory kits. The HyperX kit of three 4GB modules allows enthusiasts to get the most out of their Intel Core i7 and X58 platforms. That means with two KHX12800D3K3/12GX memory kits you can run 24GB of system memory on Intel X58 platforms that have six DDR3 memory slots! At 1600MHz with CL9-9-9-27 memory timings and a voltage requirement of just 1.65v these kits should scream! If the system performance doesn't 'scream' then the $1400 price might. Obviously this kit is not for everyone, but for those wanting 24GB in an Intel X58 motherboard will gobble these kits up.

“Kingston was first to release 2GHz kits and has continued to lead the memory charge with more DDR3 offerings since Intel created the triple-channel architecture,” said Mark Tekunoff, senior technology manager, Kingston. “Our latest kit of three was tested with great success on the Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard and runs at a speedy 1600MHz to take full advantage of the memory controller on the Core i7 processor for unmatched performance.”
