Intel To Launch Nehalem Server Processor Today
Intel is scheduled to launch Nehalem EP today, the server version of the chipmaker's next-generation microarchitecture. But while the new features within Nehalem EP coincide with the direction of computing, corporate adoption is likely to be hampered by the economic downturn. Intel is expected to introduce Nehalem EP processors and highlight the systems of major computer makers, such as Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and IBM, at its corporate headquarters in Santa Clara, Calif.
Analysts agree that Nehalem EP, with its integrated memory controller for better performance, is poised to deliver more power to meet the increasing demand of virtualization in the data center. In addition, Nehalem-based processors should help with the push toward cloud computing, which typically refers to the running of applications in an Internet server or downloading the software from the Internet each time it's used. Google Apps is an example of business applications delivered via cloud computing. Initially, Nehalem EP processors will primarily be available with four cores. Intel plans to introduce a six-core Nehalem processor and an eight-core design, called Nehalem EX, by the end of the year.

Action video games sharpen eyesight: U.S. study
Adults who play a lot of action video games may be improving their eyesight, U.S. researchers said on Sunday. They said people who used a video-game training program saw significant improvements in their ability to notice subtle differences in shades of gray, a finding that may help people who have trouble with night driving.
For the study, the team divided 22 students into two groups. One group played the action games "Call of Duty 2" by Activision Blizzard Inc and Epic Games' "Unreal Tournament 2004." A second played Electronic Arts Inc's "The Sims 2," a game they said does not require as much hand-eye coordination. The two groups played 50 hours of their assigned games over the course of nine weeks. At the end of the training, the action game players showed an average of 43 percent improvement in their ability to discern close shades of gray, while the Sims players showed none.

Foxconn to begin relocating production facilities in China back to Taiwan
The Foxconn (Hon Hai Precision Industry) Group plans to relocate part of its production facilities in China back to Taiwan later this year, the group's chairman Terry Gou said during an employment fair held by Taiwan's government on March 29 in Taipei.
While endorsing the government's efforts to create more job opportunities in an attempt to rein in rising unemployment rates in Taiwan, Gou also urged the government to cultivate a more favorable business environment so that more local enterprises are willing to build their bases in the home market. When asked if he has seen signs of recovery in the economic market, Gou commented that the global economy will not fully recover until 2012, although the electronics industry has recently experienced an influx of short lead time orders, according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

MSI 790GX-G65 AM3 Motherboard Review @ OCC and other reviews from around the web can be found by visiting our forums!
"Well, when it comes down to the wire, apples to apples, the DDR3 memory support does give the AM3 processors a bit of a lead. In just about every test there was an increase when using a 790GX based board with DDR3 memory support over DDR2 memory support. If you are in the market for a new system, then I highly suggest going the AM3 route. However, in my opinion, if you are already running a strong DDR2 based AMD system, then the cost does not justify the minimal increases that you will currently get. All of that aside the MSI 790GX-G65 is a rock solid board with great features that will make any enthusiast smile. The overclocking on this board was very easy and has been one of the stablest I have seen with minimal tweaking. The added ability to overclock using hardware dip switches will allow even a novice the added joy of pushing their hardware beyond the limits."

Some Online HBO Shows Could Go Subscription-Only
Time Warner Cable, the second-largest cable operator in the country, is working with customers to test a subscriber model for online TV viewing. Residents who pay for HBO can watch “Big Love,” “Entourage” and other programs on their computers, using special software and a personal log-in. People who are not HBO subscribers are barred from the service.
“Every single network is having a hard time trying to figure out how to make money on their Internet delivery,” said Brian Baker, the chief executive of Widevine Technologies, which helps owners of content distribute their programming securely online. “Advertisers are not willing to pay top dollar for content delivered over the Internet to PCs, and it’s beginning to jeopardize the multibillion-dollar relationship the networks have with their cable and satellite providers.”

China believed to be behind cyber spy network
A cyber spy network based mainly in China has tapped into classified documents from government and private organizations in 103 countries, including the computers of Tibetan exiles, Canadian researchers said Saturday.
The work of the Information Warfare Monitor initially focused on allegations of Chinese cyber espionage against the Tibetan community in exile, and eventually led to a much wider network of compromised machines, the Internet-based research group said. "We uncovered real-time evidence of malware that had penetrated Tibetan computer systems, extracting sensitive documents from the private office of the Dalai Lama," investigator Greg Walton said.

NVIDIA APEX Technology Accelerates Physics Creation
NVIDIA Corporation recently announced NVIDIA APEX, a dramatic new capability to its PhysX technology development software development kit (SDK), that provides artists, level designers, and game developers with a set of easy-to-use tools that streamline the process of implementing scalable physics across multiple platforms for next-generation titles.

With NVIDIA PhysX technology, game developers can design worlds that literally come to life: walls can be torn down, glass can be shattered, trees bend in the wind, and water flows with body and force. Designed as a modular framework that works in concert with existing PhysX SDKs, NVIDIA APEX makes it easy for developers to add detailed physics effects to their games and helps them optimize the gaming experience across multiple platforms with a simple “author once” cross platform content creation feature. This enables APEX to not only help developers accelerate the time it takes to author new games, but will also help them reduce overall development costs in the process. The APEX toolset will be available free of charge for licensed NVIDIA PhysX developers and is already being integrated into some of the world’s most popular development libraries and game engines, including Emergent Game Technologies’ Gamebryo LightSpeed.
