Asustek denies planning to acquire MSI, says paper

Asustek Computer yesterday denied rumors that it was planning to acquire Micro-Star International (MSI), according to the Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN). Merger rumors of all sorts have spread in Taiwan's markets since news broke that The Carlyle Group proposed an acquisition of Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE).

The paper cited Asustek sources as saying it would be "absolutely impossible" for the company to acquire MSI. Asustek and Gigabyte Technology have recently teamed up for a joint venture. The new company, Gigabyte United, is expected to start operations in January.
