NRA Releases Shooting Game For Ages 4+ on iPhone, iPad
Call it what you will, but the National Rifle Association (NRA) has released a new game for Apple iOS users, called "NRA: Practice Range," that is being billed as appropriate for ages 4 and up. The game, which is free on iTunes, consists mostly of first-person shooting practice at either indoor or outdoor ranges. The video game was released one month after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. and has a more than a few people upset even though the game appears to be more about firearm safety than a 'kill anything that moves' first person shooter.
The player has a choice of nine guns, though at first, only the pistol and the M16 are "unlocked"; you can unlock other weapons -- like a Beretta, an AK-47 or a Dragunov SVD sniper rifle -- for $1 each through an in-app purchase. The NRA recently blamed video games for stoking gun violence, so this game release is interesting!
