Sales Figures For Raspberry Pis Units Nears One Million Units

The people behind element 14/Premier Farnell recently announced that they alone have now made and sold more than half a million Raspberry Pis. They’re only one of two official distributors of the little devices, so it could be possible that RS Components has manufactured about the same number. This means that the two companies might soon be announcing that they have created the millionth Raspberry Pi unit!

Last month the $35 Raspberry Pi got the “Pi Store” – an app store created in partnership with IndieCity and Velocix. Anyone will be able to download and upload their own apps to the Pi Store for consideration according to Raspberry Pi’s website. The Pi Store will have 23 free apps at launch, ranging from utilities like LibreOffice and Asterisk to classic games like Freeciv and OpenTTD. Paid content will also be available. The folks at element 14/Premier Farnell announced today that they alone have now made and sold more than half a million Raspberry Pis. They’re only one of two official distributors; we don’t have completely up-to-date figures from RS Components yet, but Farnell’s news suggests that we’re well on the way to having sold our millionth Raspberry Pi.
