Windows 8 Has Finally Arrived!

From midnight tonight, Microsoft's new operating system will go on sale, coming in two primary x86 versions, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro, along with an ARM version, Windows RT only available pre-installed on a new tablet. Windows 8 of course features the new Start screen specifically designed for touch input on tablets.

It will be available for download from the Microsoft Store to purchase and also as a retail package from many different retailers in 140 markets and 37 languages. Prices will be around $140.00 for Windows 8 Pro OEM 64-bit and around $100 for Windows 8 OEM 32-bit. The upgrade offer that has been much publicised is present and correct too. To qualify, one must have a PC running any of Windows XP, Vista or 7 to qualify for an upgrade price of around $40.00 direct from Microsoft. Also, eligible Windows 7 PCs purchased between June 2, 2012, and Jan. 31, 2013, in more than 140 markets can download an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for an estimated retail price of $15.00 with the Windows Upgrade. Finally, Microsoft is hosting a Windows 8 and Surface launch party at its store in New York tonight to welcome the new products. Full details are available at the link below.

As a result of close work with hardware partners, more than 1,000 certified PCs and tablets, including Microsoft Surface, will be available for the launch of Windows 8 - making it the best lineup of PCs ever across the Windows 8 and Windows RT ecosystem.
