Current iPhone Sales Continue to Increase Despite Pending Release of iPhone 5
Sales of current Apple iPhone 4 and 4S models are expected to actually grow by 10-15% sequentially in Q3, despite the rumoured release of the iPhone 5 on September 12. These figures have been drawn from makers in the supply chain indicating that component orders for the current models have been stronger than expected in the third quarter and that total iPhone shipments in this quarter will be higher than those in Q2. Additionally, sources said that Best buy recently lowered the price of the current models, which should help to increase sales of these models. "For the fourth quarter of 2012, Apple is expected to ship a total of 28 million iPhones, including 6-10 million units of new iPhones and 18-22 million units of old models, the sources estimated."
Touch panel maker Wintek saw its revenues soar 60% sequentially to NT$8.34 billion (US$277.72 million) in July, due in part to Apple's renewed touch panel orders for iPhone 4S, the sources indicated.
