AMD to Launch CPU Rebate Promotion in Europe

AMD is to launch a rebate scheme in Europe for their processors called "More Cores. More Cashback", which appears to be an attempt to increase sales in the face of far superior offerings from Intel in the form of its Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge lines of processors. The amount of rebate depends on the number of cores, as follows: 4 cores = £10, 6 cores = £15 and 8 cores = £20. The rebate is offered at the same numerical price in Euros - just swap the currency symbol.

The terms and conditions state that the promotion will be open from June 11 to August 31, 2012 and the claim form must be submitted by September 18, 2012. However, it's actually a typo, as AMD informed UK site HEXUS that the promotion really starts on July 2nd. That's quite some typo and is a rather embarrassing one to leave up on their website (click the link below).

This appears to be a way of introducing US-style rebate schemes to Europe. However, customers generally don't like the inconvenience and delay of getting their rebate, especially so when the amount of money on offer is small, so surely a straight price cut would have been better?

The AMD 'More Cores, More Cashback' Rebate Promotion (the "Promotion") is open to purchasers of designated AMD products who are legal residents of Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and the UK. The Promotion will be open from 11th June 2012 to 31 August 2012 (the "Promotion Period").
