Microsoft’s Updated Mixer App Lands on iOS and Android

Microsoft has announced that it has launched an updated version of Mixer, the mobile gameplay streaming app that is meant to rival Twitch. The latest version of the app will land on Android and iOS soon and has been in beta testing since this fall. The latest version of Mixer has focused on the user experience, content discovery, performance, and personalization.

The beta version of Mixer has a “Trending” section that shows featured broadcasts at the top and a filtering tool to help users find interactive and co-streaming broadcasts. A “Following” section allows users to track their favorite broadcasters.

The user profile page is updated with links to their channel, level, and “sparks.” Microsoft boosted the app code base for better performance and stability reports TechCrunch. The apps can send out push notifications to alert users when their favorite streamers are on.

Other features include the ability to customize Mixer for stream video quality, chat, and audio toggles as well as sharing options. Microsoft hopes that this new app launch will help it to put a dent in Twitch and YouTube, which are currently the top two in streaming online.
