Microsoft Windows Vista to be priced at XP’s levels

Microsoft Corp. said its Windows Vista operating system will cost the same as comparable Windows XP editions. Microsoft priced Windows Vista Home Basic at $199, or $99.95 as an upgrade for computers already running the consumer version of Windows XP.

Windows Vista Business will cost $299; the company set the price for upgrades at $199. A test version of the operating system was made available Friday to about 15,000 Microsoft partners and customers.
