Microsoft readies industry for switch to 64-bit systems

While 64-bit-enabled hardware and software have been around for some time, the real transition for the majority of the world’s computer systems will only occur when Microsoft is ready.

Microsoft started the process in earnest last week by announcing 64-bit editions of Windows Server 2003 and XP operating system software at WinHEC, its annual hardware developers conference.
