Levi’s Commuter Trucker Jacket is a Wearable tie up with Google Jacquard

Levi’s has been making jeans and other clothing items as long as any of us can remember. The company has unveiled its first tie up with Google Project Jacquard in the form of a wearable jacket with conductive fibers woven into it. The fibers themselves can be washed along with the jacket and the electronics tech that runs the show is attached to the cuff and is removable for washing.

The idea behind the Levi’s Commuter Trucker Jacket is to make it easy for people to stay connected without having to pull their phone out of the pocket and is aimed directly at bicyclists. The conductive fibers allow the cuff of the jacket to be used like a gesture input area. That means that wearers can use the cuff to skip songs or get navigation cues.

Levi’s says that over time other features will be added to the jacket that will give it cool features for use on or off your bike. The touch sensitive cuff does have a different look to it than the other denim material the jacket is made of. Google worked with Levi’s on the jacket and it uses Google ATAP to make the jacket functional.

The A Tag with the electronics connects to those conductive fibers wirelessly. Word is that the launch will come this fall. Google Project Jacquard hopes to bring lots more wearable devices to market that expand the realm of smart clothing.
