Leaked Nintendo Switch SDK Tips Game Data Backups and Guest Login Coming

By

Nintendo Switch fans have been clamoring for new features for their game consoles with items high on the list being the ability to transfer game save data to another device and guest login capability. Transferring game save data to another device is already possible with other Nintendo portables. Many are unhappy that the transfer feature didn’t land with the console at launch.

That transfer feature means if you break your Switch and need a new one, you don’t loose all your game progress. Having a guest login means if your friend wants to play, you don’t have to let them muck about with your own profile and you don’t need to make them one of their own. Both of these features are mentioned in a document that was leaked claiming to talk about the Switch SDK.

The document is allegedly from Nintendo and in it, it states clearly that Nintendo plans to bring a transfer account save data feature amgn multiple consoles. The document also specifically calls out a feature that is being tentatively called “Guest Login.” That would allow guests to access the existing network without having to link a user account.

The guest feature would allow people to upload a character raised as online data and use that data on a friend’s console without creating a user account. Nintendo is maintaining that the shortage of Switch consoles is not intentional and that it plans to get as many units as possible on shelves to support the holiday shopping season that is coming.
