Leak Spills the Beans on Coffee Lake Intel Core i7 8700K and More

Intel, like any other tech firm,. Has its share of leaks that tip what the chipmaker is working on ahead of the official launch. This week a leak has turned up that talks about Coffee Lake processors that are alleged to be in the works. The first processor in question is said to the the Core i7 8700K.

The chip is said to have six cores and run a base clock speed of 3.7GHz while packing a 12MB L3 cache and 95W TDP. If the rumor is valid the K designator on the end of the processor name would indicate that the chip will be unlocked giving overclockers freedom to play. The rumor also suggests that another chip is in the works.

This one is a Core i7 8700 lacking that K designator and running a base clock speed of 3.2GHz. Both of these parts allegedly support HyperThreading allowing them to run 12 threads with their 6-cores reports HotHardware. Sitting under that plain 8700 processor is tipped to be a pair of Core i5 chips in the works including an 8600K and 8400 part. Core i5 8600K is supposed to run at 3.6GHz and pack in 9MB of L3 cache and a 95W TDP.

The Core i5 8400 runs at 2.8GHz with a 65W TDP. It’s worth noting that neither of the Core i5 parts in the rumor have HyperThreading enabled so they only handle one thread per core. Details, albeit scant details, have also surfaced on Coffee Lake mobile CPUs. Word on that front is that Intel is sampling six-core mobile parts running at 2GHz with a TDP of 45W. Intel is also said to be working n a 2GHz mobile chip with quad-cores packing 6MB L3 cache, HyperThreading, and the Intel GT3s GPU all with a 28W TDP.
