Not too many motherboards out there can support 2GHz and beyond memory frequencies, but the ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard just happens to be one of the few that can. The 3GB Kingston HyperX T1 2GHz memory kit runs with 9-9-9-24 1T timings with just 1.65V. The 6GB Kingston HyperX T1 2GHz memory kit runs at 8-8-8-25-1T. Since I am still pretty green on overclocking Intel Core i7 920 processors I didn’t push the voltage up from what was in the XMP profile. The HyperX T1 6GB kit was already pushing 1.7v on the QPI so that should be a sufficient amount!
If you notice, both kits reached similar speeds despite the difference in memory timings. Being that the frequencies reached are nearly identical, something else is holding us back. I also noticed that the previous Kingston 2GHz kit that Nate reviewed reached the same speeds before becoming unstable. With all of this staring us in the face, it would seem that we have run into a limit of sorts with this particular ASUS P6T Deluxe. No amount of tinkering with primary timings, even going to 9-9-9-24 on the 6GB kit, would allow me to boot into Vista at higher speeds. Perhaps we will have to be more adventurous with the voltage settings!
Both memory kits seemed willing to give more, and the performance was really starting to get interesting as you can see above. This is some incredible memory bandwidth here!
