The pioneering internet livestream site Justin.tv closed down today after providing a platform for users a platform to broadcast live video for seven years. Founded in 2007 by Justin Kan, Emmett Shear, Michael Seibel and Kyle Vogt originally as a 24/7 video broadcast of Justin’s daily life, Justin.tv eventually became a live web video broadcasting platform that anyone could use. Over the site’s lifetime, several categories were added and one in particular, the gaming category, was separated from the Justin.tv site in 2011 to become Twitch.tv.
During Febuary of 2014, the Justin.tv business was rebranded as Twitch Interactive and today the original parent site was closed so that resources could be focused on the Twitch platform. The Justin.tv site now displays a short 7 minute video message and FAQ regarding the site closure.
I guess this is my last video on Justin.tv – Justin Kan
