iPhone 8 Battery Swells, Splitting Phone Open for Some Users

By

With the iPhone 8 Plus now on the market the rumors about the device are finally over. The launch hasn’t been as smooth as past iPhone launches though with some owners reporting that the battery inside the smartphone is failing, when that failure happens the iPhone is splitting apart at the screen.

These battery failures for some people are happening within hours of unboxing the devices according to MacRumors. One user claims to have purchased an iPhone 8 Plus on Sunday, but had to return it Monday after the battery swelled and pushed the screen out of place. Another user had the same thing happen with an iPhone 8 Plus in Greece.

That iPhone 8 Plus owner had plugged the smartphone in to charge overnight using the official Apple charger and cable. When waking the next day the smartphone was found to have split open because of a swollen battery. Reports indicate that device was only unboxed the day before.

These iPhones failed within the first day of use for users. That marks at least five instances where the iPhone 8 Plus battery has failed with reports coming from all over the world. Apple has stated it is aware of the issue and is looking into it.
