Intel’s Wireless Display Hardware Getting Started

The Toshiba Satellite E205 (E205-S1904) is a pretty bad-ass laptop by itself as it comes equipped with a fast Intel Core i5-430M processor with 4GB DDR3 (1066MHz) RAM, a 500 GB (5400 RPM) hard drive, HDMI, LED backlit keyboard, slot-loading DVD drive and a 14 widescreen display. All of this goodness is contained in a metallic blue case powered by a 6-cell battery rated for 6 hours.

In order to make us of Intels Wireless Display, your machine has to contain one of the three supported wireless components: Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200, Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250, or Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300.

Our Toshiba E205 came with the Centrino Advanced-N 6200 which is an IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless adapter that operates in both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz spectrum giving you up to 300 Mbps of bandwidth enough to stream 1080p video files to your television.

One of the coolest things about these Wireless Display
laptops is that they have a dedicated button to transfer the laptop image to
your big screen TV. On our Toshiba, you
can see the button on the right side (the second one under the power button) of the keyboard towards the top with Intels
universal wireless display logo.

The Netgear Push2TV adapter is a lightweight box designed to work in combination (some would say exclusively) with the Intel Wireless Display to extend the viewing from your PC to the TV. The device is a pretty simple device as it only has one button (power) on the back and a few indicator lights on the front.

Actually, the PTV1000 has HDMI and AV Composite video connections to connect to virtually any television on the market. It measures at around 4x5.5x1.25 so its not big at all and could travel easily if necessary. Since you dont need line-of-sight for the adapter to work, you can store it out of the way just about anywhere near your television. The Push2TV box is designed to be on a sort of permanent standby waiting for the user to initiate it with a push of a button on their laptop.
