Intel Shows Off 28-Core 5GHz Desktop CPU At Computex 2018

We’ve been talking about the limited edition Intel Core i7-8086K 6-core 5GHz processor lately, but Intel caught many off guard today by showing a 28-core CPU running at on a single socket platform at Computex 2018. Gregory Bryant, SVP and GM of Intel Client Computing Group, demoed the 28-core processor running at an impressive 5GHz on stage and even ran a live benchmark! The benchmark of choice was the Multi CPU test in Cinebench R15 and this upcoming processor scored 7,334 points. No other details were provided, so we aren’t sure exactly what platform was being used. It is likely being run on the LGA2066 (X299) platfom. Intel already offers 28-core processors on the Xeon side of the company with the Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 (Intel ARK). The Intel Xeon Platinum 8180 has 28-cores, 56-threads running at up to a max turbo clock speed of 3.8GHz for around $9,999. That means this desktop version is running up to 31.6% faster, which is impressive. The only thing that scares us is going to be the price as Intel will be releasing this 28-core desktop processor by the end of the year. That should give you about half a year to start saving if you need more cores than the 18-cores available on the Intel Core i9-7980XE Extreme Edition Processor ($1999).

Who wants to take a guess as to what this upcoming Intel Core i9 28-core processor will cost? Could it be around $2999?
