We haven’t said much about the Intel Compute Stick that we told you about during CES 2015, but it looks like we have some good news to bring you. Intel has released the initial mass production drivers for the Intel Compute Stick STCK1A32WFC, which would be the Windows version of the device. Drivers are available for the Realtek WLAN and Bluetooth solution (1.01.0243) as well as the Intel HD Graphics drivers (10.18.10.4061).

During CES 2015 we were told by Intel that they will be offering both a Windows 8.1 32-bit with Bing version (STCK1A32WFC) and one for Linux (STCK1A8LFC). Both versions are powered by an Intel Atom Bay Trail Z3735F quad-core processor (1.33GHz Base Clock / 1.83GHz Burst Clock) with 2MB of cache and feature 802.11n wireless, Bluetooth 4.0, Micro USB and a standard USB port for connectivity. The Intel Compute Stick measures 10.3cm x 3.7cm x 1.2cm (LxWxH) and comes with an HDMI extender cable, MicroUSB power cable and a wall adapter. The difference between the to OS models is that the Linux version comes with 8GB of internal eMMC storage and 1GB of DDR3L RAM for $109.99 and the Windows 8.1 version features 32GB of internal eMMC storage and 2GB of DDR3L RAM for around $149.99.

intel compute stick preorder

We discovered today that Intel is already taking pre-orders for the Intel Compute Stick and you can get the Intel Compute Stick STCK1A32WFC for $149.99 plus $4.99 shipping and the Intel Compute Stick STCK1A8LFC for $109.99 plus $7.99 shipping. The release date on the Windows 8.1 version is April 24th, 2015 and the Linux version shows the same release date, but if you go to pre-order one it says it won’t be back in stock until May 21st, 2015. We aren’t sure why shipping costs 60% more for the Linux version, but are pretty certain that Newegg has the specifications wrong on the Linux version! If you want an Intel Compute Stick you might as well pre-order one as they might go quick!
