Intel is previewing early prototype silicon of its next-generation Thunderbolt controller codenamed Falcon Ridge at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show this week in Las Vegas. The new ‘Falcon Ridge’ Thunderbolt controller runs at 20Gbs, enabling 4K video file transfer and display simultaneously. This is twice the speed of current iterations of Thunderbolt controllers! Falcon Ridge will be backwards compatible to support all Thunderbolt-ready devices! Initial production is expected before the end of this year, with ramp in 2014.
Engadget was at NAB and and caught a presentation where Intel demonstrated data transfer over 1,200 Mbps, which is significantly faster than anything available in the market right now! Check out the video clip below!
