iBUYPOWER Snowblind Gaming PC Features Transparent LCD Side Panel

iBUYPOWER announced back in May 2016 that they were working on an LCD side panel-equipped gaming PC called Snowblind. We actually totally forgot all about the project, but when we were on the CES 2017 show floor we ran across the new iBUYPOWER Snowblind PC that is actually coming to market next month. iBUYPOWER teamed up with Intel to create the panel and together they created half a dozen panels before finally being happy with the one they picked to go into production with.

Pricing for the Snowblind Gaming PC is not finalized yet, but they said that the tempered glass side panel that has the translucent 19-inch 1280 x 1024 LCD display on it only costs about $250. The other thing that will drive up the cost for this side panel is that the inside of the case needs to be a uniform color in order to get the best clarity on the translucent display. The iBuypower Snowblind gaming PC will be fully customizable, but the inside is all white and silver to get the best image quality on the display. That means they’ll have to paint the inside of the chassis white and use white PSU cable sleeves, motherboards, case fans and so on. We see this driving up the price of the PC a good bit as that will likely increase the build cost due to sourcing all the white parts and the extra time needed to switch come components out. The case in the Intel booth was basically showing the Windows desktop when we saw it (see below), but you can program the display to do whatever you want with open-source software. If you aren’t a coder you’ll be able to run multiple pre-configured effects. You can also play a video, show system specifications (Rainmeter was shown at CES 2017) or a custom message on the digital side panel while still being able to show off the inside of your system.

If you want the side panel you will not be able to buy it alone as it is designed for the iBUYPOWER Noctis gaming case that is exclusive to iBUYPOWER. iBUYPOWER is also not selling the case by itself, so you’ll have to configure and purchase an entire Snowblind Gaming PC to get this side panel technology. We can’t wait to see what the entry-level price will be next month!
