Smartphone maker Huawei has just officially announced that its next device, the Mate 10, will launch on October 16. The official announcement of the event has come spelling out the day of launch specifically and that the smartphone will be powered by a Kirin 970 chipset. The launch event for the smartphone will happen in Munich, Germany.

The Kirin 970 is the new flagship SoC and was itself launched at IFA 2017 a few day ago in Berlin. That chip is a 10 nm 64-bit SoC with a 12-core GPU. The Mate 10 will be the first place that we get a look at the processor in action. The fact that the Kirin 970 SoC will be under the hood of the smartphone is all we really know about it right now.

There are plenty of rumors hinting at what might be found under the hood of that smartphone though. Rumors suggest a dual camera system on the back of the smartphone. The chassis is expected to be metal or possibly a metal and glass.

The 970 SoC is expected to be paired with 6GB of RAM with the possibility of a version with 8GB of RAM as well. The Chinese market is particularly popular for 8GB of RAM inside smartphones. Android nougat is expected to be installed out of the box but Andorid 8.0 Oreo is expected to be offered down the road. The screen is rumored to be a 6-inch unit reports Android Headlines.
