Google Updates Movies to 4K via Play Movies & TV for Free

By

If you have purchased a large collection (or even a small one) on Play Movies & TV, an upgrade is coming that you will be excited about. Your SD and HD movies purchased via the service are getting free updates to 4K resolution as Google pushes to focus on high-quality content. Free access to 4K versions of movies you have purchased will happen as 4K versions of the films become available.

Presumably, very old and not so popular movies might never get a 4K upgrade. The best part is that the updates are free, normally a charge is associated with moving to a higher quality film. Of course, this will only do you good if you have a 4K TV.

Google is also making 4K films cheaper to purchase to start with. Exactly how much cheaper the price of 4K films will be is unknown. The assumption is that different 4K films will have different prices.

Free 4K updates are offered only to people in the US and Canada right now reports Thurrott. There is no word on if the free updates will roll out to other countries. We do know, for now, no other countries are getting free updates.
