Galaxy S8 Fast Charging Requires Screen to be Off

By

If you are the sort of mobile user who is always on the phone you might be wondering why it doesn’t seem like Fast Charging works all the time. CNET reports that if you plug your Galaxy S8 or S8 Plus into the approved fast charging cable and you are using it, fast charging won’t work. For fast charging to take effect, you have to leave the screen off.

Reports indicate if the screen is on because you are using the device or it was left on while charging you will see much slower charge speeds. Fast charging is supposed to be able to charge the device fully in two hours. With the screen on recharge times to full have been recorded of around three hours. That means when the screen is on the device appears to charge at normal speeds.

This is despite the fact that you might get a fast charging notification on the bottom of the screen while you are using your device. This fast charging tidbit isn’t in the owner’s manual according to CNET. The Galaxy S8 isn’t the only device that has some fast charging hangups. The Google Pixel apparently doesn’t fast charge if the internal temperature of the smartphone is too high.

Even with the screen of your device off, you might not get fast charging if the feature is turned off in the settings. To enable fast charging you need to go to settings – device maintenance, battery, advanced settings, and then toggle fast cable charging on.
