Battlefield 4 is a first-person shooter video game developed by EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE) and published by Electronic Arts. It is a sequel to 2011’s Battlefield 3 and was released on October 29, 2013 in North America. Battlefield 4’s single-player Campaign takes place in 2020, six years after the events of its predecessor. Tensions between Russia and the United States have been running at a record high. On top of this, China is also on the brink of war, as Admiral Chang, the main antagonist, plans to overthrow China’s current government; and, if successful, the Russians will have full support from the Chinese, bringing China into a war with the United States.

This game title uses the Frostbite 3 game engine and looks great. We tested Battlefield 4 with the Ultra graphics quality preset as most discrete desktop graphics cards can easily play with this IQ setting at 1080P and we still want to be able to push the higher-end cards down the road. We used FRAPS to benchmark with these settings on the Shanghai level. All tests were done with the DirectX 11 API unless noted in the chart.

Battlefield 4 is more CPU intensive than any other game that we benchmark with as 25% of the CPU is used up during gameplay. You can see that six threads are being used and that the processor is running in Turbo mode at 3.96GHz more times than not.

Benchmark Results: In Battlefield 4 with Ultra settings at Full HD 1080P resolutions we found that all three video cards were somewhat close, but the EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC 4GB card led the other sub $200 cards by at least 16% on average.

Benchmark Results: Here is a look at the performance over time and you can see that the EVGA GeForce GTX 960 SSC 4GB performed at a higher level than the AMD Radeon R7 370 and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950 cards on this benchmark.

    I would love to know the other settings you used in the Precision X tool to get the overclock to be stable. Did you increase voltage? I have the same card but can’t manage to get much of any overclock to be stable. It may be that I’m not entirely sure what to change after adjusting the Core and memory sliders…

      Max out voltage and power tdp. Add 100mhz to core and run 3Dmark 11, add another 50. Until you see artifacts then go down by 20 and test again.

      Most EVGA cards I have used have been able to deal with +110 MHz Base & +120 MHz Memory without voltage changes.

        I’m using the SSC version of this card and I haven’t figured out a way to get any stable overclock that’s worth doing.

    Wow, that is a huge article to read. Hopefully, the card will show fine. I am trying to choose a new much-faster card than my old HD5450 (which will fine only with CS Condition Zero).

    After watching the comparison, I am not sure that its good to include an AMD card with much lower GPU frequency and twice less video memory.

    In any case, this card looks good. Have to choose between it and MSI (http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GTX-960-GAMING-2G/dp/B00SAYDRP8). Although it may be better to choose a card with 4GB (http://hardware.nl/evga/04g-p4-3962-kr.html)
