Epic Games has created a massive empire with Fortnite, the most popular game on the planet right now. Epic wants gamers to be able to play their favorite titles against friends on all platforms and to make that happen it has announced it would offer a set of cross-platform game services to all developers in 2019. That means it will be easier to roll out games that you can play against friends no matter what console they use reports NintendoLife.

These game services were built initially for Fortnite says Epic Games and have been tested with 200 million players across seven platforms. Epic Games wrote, “These services will be free for all developers, and will be open to all engines, all platforms, and all stores. As a developer, youre free to choose mix-and-match solutions from Epic and others as you wish.”

Epic continued, “All services will be operated in a privacy-friendly, GDPR-compliant manner.

The service launch will begin with a C SDK encapsulating our online services, together with Unreal Engine and Unity integrations. Well start with a core set of features and expand over time.”

Epic says that its free platform is the first step in helping the next-generation of socially connected games launch. From a gamer perspective, this is a very good thing. Epic Games seems set on dominating the game world thanks to Fortnite.
