DJI Spark Drone is Controlled with Hand Gestures

By

DJI has launched a new mini drone called the Spark that is designed to allow anyone to capture images from the air. The small drone promises ease of use and to be fun to fly with the ability to launch from the palm of your hand. Spark is the first drone from DJI that can be controlled by hand gestures alone.

DJI says that people who have never flown a drone before will be able to fly the Spark with no issues. As soon as the drone takes off from your hand it enters into Gesture Mode where hand movements will send the drone up and away from you, you can call it back with a gesture, and take a selfie with your hand gestures.

The drone is light at 10.6-ounces and can be launched within seconds. It can be operated by a remote control or mobile device in addition to hand gestures. The entire point of the Spark is to take images from the air. Spark will be offered in five colors including alpine white, sky blue, meadow green lava red, and sunrise yellow.

DJI includes a QuickShot Intelligent Flight mode to make shooting video with the drone fun and easy. With QuickSet the drone flies a preset path while recording video and tracking subjects along the way. A 10-second video is automatically created from the flight that can be shared.

Other modes like TapFly and ActiveTrack are also included on the Spark, but TapFly is now called Coordinate and allows your drone to fly to a specific location when you tap the screen of your mobile device. A 3D sensing system tracks obstacles in front of the drone and tracks subjects. Spark also works with the DJI Goggles.

The camera is a 12MP unit that can shoot stabilized HD videos. The Spark drone will sell for $499 including charger, battery, and aircraft. The Drone can be had in a Spark Fly More combo for $699 including four propellers, aircraft, remote control, propeller guards, charging hub, bag, and cable.
