Dell Advanced 4K Laser Projector Throws 100-inch Image from 4-inches

If you want a massive image and you don’t want to spend the money it costs to get something like a 70-inch or larger traditional 4K TV, which can cost over $10,000, a projector might be the ticket. I had a home theater room in an old house years ago and used it to throw a 120-inch image, but that room was very large and had a long distance for me to mount the projector away from the screen.

In a smaller room, it can be impossible for a normal projector to give you large images you want. Dell has a new projector that is both 4K and ultra short throw. This means that it can throw a 4K image 100-inches in size from a distance of only 4-inches away from the surface. The projector is the Dell Advanced 4K Laser projector S718QL. It’s meant to be used in classrooms or an office, but I would think you could probably use it in a home theater where you can’t get that far from a projection surface.

Dell says that the laser light source can operate for at least ten years. Bulbs for normal projectors won’t last but a few years and can cost around $100 to replace. Dell stops short of giving up hard details on the projector like brightness, contrast, and so on. What we do know is that it has wireless connectivity options and Bluetooth for streaming audio.

The projector will launch on July 19 and Dell should give up all the details at that time. It’s not cheap with a price of $5,999, but that is not that expensive with some home theater projectors costing much more. If you want a massive traditional TV, you will spend more with the cheapest being LG’s 86-inch unit priced at $8,000 according to ExtremeTech.
