CM Hyper 612 V2 Packaging and a Closer Look

Cooler Master typically keeps their packaging rather simple, but informative for whomever may find their product on store shelves. The actual packaging of the contents inside is always done well and the Hyper 612 V2 follows that trend.

The front side shows a large picture of the cooler itself and a little information regarding compatibility. The sides will provide you with all of the technical specifications that you found on the introduction of this review, as well as a few bullet points to inform you of a few key features.

Inside we find all of the contents are separated nicely in basically their own compartments. The instructions and warranty card were placed on top, and just below that was all of the hardware and accessories that you need to get the cooler installed. The included hardware will allow you to install this cooler with any modern Intel or AMD CPU, and Cooler Master was nice enough to include a small syringe of their thermal compound.

Meet The Hyper 612 V2

Finally getting the Hyper 612 V2 out of the box, you will begin to notice all of the aforementioned updates that Cooler Master has made in redesigning this cooler. Let’s take a quick tour around this cooler and see what makes it so great.

This cooler is made up of three components to remove heat from your CPU, including the heat pipes, cooling fins, and the fan. Let’s start off with the heat pipes.

The heat pipes will make direct contact with your CPU, applying Cooler Master’s CDC (Continuous Direct Contact) technology. You will find no gaps between the heat pipes like you will on some other coolers, allowing the heat to be exchanged more effectively.

The heat pipes then in turn rise up through the top stack of the cooler and dissipate any collected heat here. You don’t necessarily need to use a fan to dissipate the heat via conventional passive cooling, but you obviously won’t get the full performance out of this cooler.

Speaking of fins, there are 31 aluminum fins in total, which Cooler Master redesigned from the original Hyper 612. These fins is now a folding fin design to provide higher efficiency of heat dissipation. The entire stack with the heat pipes and base will bring this cooler to a very tall 160.4mm, or approximately 6.3 inches.

To assist in removing heat from the system, you will use the single included 120mm fan that’s capable of pushing 44.2 CFM with 1.6 mmH2O at 20 dBA or less. This fan simply clips onto the body thanks to the included metal brackets, making for a very effortless install, or if you want a sleeker install, you can use the black plastic bracket that screws onto the fan. Should you want to utilize a push-pull scenario with this cooler, you will end up using both components.

This fan will end up creating vortices throughout the system thanks to the X-Vent technology placed at the end of each heat pipe. This is designed to remove more heat from the system.

While this cooler is oddly shaped, remember that CM kept you in mind when designing this cooler. On the back side there is a 28mm cutout to provide clearance for your motherboard’s VRM heat sinks or RAM modules with tall heat spreaders.
