By

Home automation is starting to explode, WeMo is a line of products from Belkin that allows devices to be controlled by a smartphone or tablet, anywhere in the world. Currently they have electrical outlets, HD webcams, light switches and motion sensors.

In addition, they have WeMo enabled LED light bulbs, that are paired with a WeMo Link device. This tiny device allows the LED light bulb to be dimmed on a schedule, such as at dawn or dusk, or activated remotely.

Belkin isn’t stopping there is also a WeMo device that allows users to connect almost any low voltage device with an on/off switch, such as garage door openers, powered gate, and sprinkler systems. Then a sensor can be added to monitor weather, or movement.

Finally, Belkin is partnering with manufacturers to build WeMo into devices such as coffee pots, slow cookers and many other devices. This would allow you to activate these devices while away from home. Put dinner in a slow cooker, and change the temperature when it’s done cooking for example.

Many of these are currently available from Belkin, with the WeMo Maker and WeMo enabled devices coming this year.
