CES 2008: Skullcandy iPhone’s FMJ & Other GoodiesWed, Jan 09, 2008 - 12:00 AM
Introducing the Skullcandy iPhone FMJ Headphones
Hang out at any ski resort or local beach hotspot and you are sure to see some of the coolest gear on the market. Hanging around Las Vegas at this year’s Consumer Electronic Show was no different. We turned the corner and ran into what had to be one of the best looking and coolest booths at CES. Skullcandy had their entire line of products out for us to see but gave us a special sneak peak to what they are planning to release in 2008.
Skullcandy makes everything from headphones for skating and snowboarding, to MP3 players in wristwatch form, to backpacks and dogtags. Each of these products are presented in a funky and stylish design to match both your mood and your chosen activity. With names like “MacGyver” and “Smokin Buds”, we were anxious to see the next-generation in Skullcandy treats.
We were introduced to the iPhone Full Metal Jacket Headphones that were presented in sleek silver. These are essentially the same headphone drivers that come with Skullcandy’s regular Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) except the ones that we saw at CES were specifically designed for Apple’s iPhone. As you can see in the picture below, this version has a microphone and multi-function button built in.
Skullcandy will be taking pre-orders at the conclusion of CES for this baby – just in time for all of those who received an iPhone over the holidays. Priced at $89.95, these wired headsets are a bit more than Skullcandy’s normal FMJ ($60). This headset can be used on the latest Blackberry mobile device as well. If the specs hold to form in direct comparison to the ‘regular’ FMJ’s, expect a very nice-sized (3.5mm) speaker driver, and lightweight (under .5 oz) package. The iPhone FMJ compares directly to the V-Moda Vibe Duo built exclusively for the iPhone that we reviewed a few months back. It will be interesting to get these back to the Legit Reviews bunker for a proper test.
