Call of Duty XP – Live Events For Gamers
Many of the COD XP event participants were there only to get up close and personal with latest installment of the Call of Duty Franchise: Modern Warfare 3. Hitting stores November 8th for Microsoft Xbox360, Sony PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, and Windows PC, the newest chapter in the Call of Duty franchise promises to raise the bar in first-person shooters. Through the weekend, we saw plenty of evidence the Infinity Ward/Sledgehammer Games developers and Activision publisher are pushing heavy, fast-paced, gun-on-gun combat with a slew of new features that support various styles of play.
In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s multiplayer, you can chose your own destiny with a new Strike Package and Weapon Proficiency System that makes the game more than fragging and camping. Completing game mode objectives now counts towards your overall experience and Pointstreak progression. Activision is happy to point out that CoD has evolved overall where kills are not the only way to earn Pointstreaks.
Activision showed for the first time their new feature to the Call of Duty franchise called Call of Duty Elite. Elite is Activision’s way of connecting the more than 30 million online players around the globe. Consider it the Facebook for Call of Duty players. COD Elite will let you check stats, connect with other friends from your PC, console, or mobile device. There is even an optional premium membership that will be revealed shortly before COD: MW3 launch.
Along with a twist on Multiplayer action, Modern Warfare 3 players will see a new Weapon Ranking System and Perks like “Recon”, “Assassin”, “Stalker”, and “Marksman”. Fan-Favorite game modes make a return also and a new series of modes debut. For those who love “Free-for-All”, “Team Death”, “Domination”, etc. you will be satisfied to know that Activision and COD:MW3 didn’t leave you in the dust.
We saw “Kill Confirmed”, a new game mod where players collect dog tags from dead players shown – sorry no pictures allowed. Also, “Team Defender”, a sort of ‘capture-the-flag’ mod, were confirmed.
Activision also announced that 16 multiplayer maps were going to be available in November for launch including 5 that were shown at Call of Duty XP L.A.: “Resistance”, “Dome”, “Underground”, “Village”, and “Arkaden” were being played all weekend.
The two-day schedule of events was pretty packed with fan activities including a large Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 press conference that opened the festivities. There was a “Pros vs. G.I. Joes” where real-life troops who are serving all over the world are able to go heads-up versus their favorite celebrity or professional athlete via Xbox LIVE. While we were there, we spotted Supermodel Marissa Miller and Baller Kevin Love in the RV.
