Blizzard Announces New Hero in Overwatch: Sombra

With Blizzcon 2016 behind us, Blizzard has left us with some good information on the progression of Overwatch. One of the big announcements is the of a new Hero: Sombra. Sombra is an automatic pistol wielding Hero with a knack for stealth and tech that allows her to disable her opponents (making it easier for her to kill). Blizzard’s animated short, titled “Infiltration,” features a violet color themed hacker sporting a half shaved hairstyle working along with Widowmaker and Reaper. In the short the trio aim to eliminate Katya Volskaya the CEO of Volskaya Industries). As the video progresses we see that Widowmaker and Reaper fail at the elimination. We can see more into the personality and skill of our new Hero, Sombra, in the animated short below.

Sombra’s basic attack is the Machine Pistol. It’s a fully-automatic weapon with sixty bullets in each clip and a quick firing rate. She is able to throw a device called the Translocator. The Translocator can be used to get herself out of sticky situations, teleport to difficult to reach locations, and possibly act as a gap closer as opposed to an escape. Sombra’s Hack skill allows her to disable enemies. Her enemies will not be able to use any of their abilities under her hack as well as disable use of first aid kits for the opposing team. Sombra’s Thermopic Camo allows her to become invisible for a short time and gives the player the added bonus of a speed boost. This is a great way to sneak into action and quickly disable opponents before bursting them down and teleporting to the Translocator to get to safety or act as an easy getaway to avoid being located by the enemy. Finally, the EMP is Sombra’s ultimate. Upon activating the EMP there is a powerful surge of electromagnetic energy that takes out shields and barriers as well as disables any enemy caught within the radius. This sounds like a great addition to any team as it will allow for a good and quick initiation. The video below features Sombra’s abilities during gameplay.
