Augmented Reality Project With Apple: Possible Release with iPhone 8

An indirect view of the real world environment with computer supplemented senses sounds interesting right? Well, according to Business Insider, A new research note suggests that Apple is taking augmented reality (AR) pretty seriously as the company has 1,000 engineers working on the tech. In the past, Apple CEO Tim Cook has shown himself to be a supporter of augmented reality and is not timid with his belief that AR could be as prominent as the iPhone in the near future. Further evidence to AR’s market potential is shown by looking at how much Apple has invested (both in budget and engineering personnel) to incorporate AR in upcoming Apple projects including future iPhone plans.

AR

Business Insider goes on to state, In a research note seen by Business Insider, Milunovich writes that Apple CEO Tim Cook has repeatedly broken the silence on future products with regards to AR, citing numerous comments he has made about AR as evidence that the company is pursuing it as the next big thing. Milunovich notes that Apple appears more interested in AR rather than virtual reality (VR), because the former connects people whereas the latter is often an isolating experience involving a headset that renders the user blind to the real world.

If we have learned anything from recent Apple plans, it is that the future is both wireless and to be experienced with a large community. This could be the reason why we hear so much from Apple’s relationship to AR rather than VR. Virtual reality would theoretically offer a singular experience rather than one shared. To date, there is not that much officially known information on Apples interest in AR. What is known, however, is that Apple plans their next-generation mobile device platform to feature a depth sensing camera that could be used to incorporate Apple’s AR function. Then again, this is still speculation.
