AT&T to Roll Out 5G Service This Year

By

2018 will be a big year for faster mobile internet service, at least for some people. AT&T has announced that it plans to roll out 5G mobile service to at least a dozen markets by late 2018. This means faster mobile data and the need for new phones to support it.

AT&T says that it will be the first US company to introduce 5G service in those markets. That is careful wording, other carriers are certainly rolling out 5G service as we speak. Key elements of the 5G new radio standard were completed last month.

With those key elements completed the development of hardware, chipset, and devices can now begin. AT&T doesn’t say exactly which markets will get 5G coverage this year. The carrier will continue to roll out 5G Evolution service in other markers alongside the rollout of true 5G in the oven markets.

AT&T says that 5G is more than just faster speeds, it also reduces latency as well. That means not only downloading the videos you stream faster but playing them more quickly after you hit the play button.
