ATI’s RD600 Is Nearly Done, But Who Will Use It?

By

Rumors are floating around the web at several motherboard makers are not going to use the RD600 series of chipsets from ATI later this year as they don’t want to strain their relationship with Intel. This is all due to the ATI and AMD merger, which makes sense to us. Right now one of the few companies that said they will go ahead and make an RD600 board is DFI, but nothing says they can’t back out.

We heard that at least a few ATI’s partners are backing out of the RD600 project. ATI will have the chips ready for October but not too many motherboard manufacturers wants to step on Intel’s toes and make an ATI RD600 board. Manufacturers are to blame for this, and not ATI. The chipset will be just fine but this very easily might be the last Intel based chipset from ATI. This is what the motherboard companies believe at the moment.
