ASUS WAVI – Unboxing and Setting Up

Unpacking and setting up the ASUS WAVI looked very simple. Grab the transmitter and receiver and connect them to your PC and HDTV respectively. Well, the procedure wasnt quite that easy. ASUS does give you everything you need hardware wise to get up and going: Transmitter, Receiver, two AC AC Adapters, two HDMI cables, one USB cable, a Support CD with Manual and Driver, and a Quick Start Guide.

When you look at the ASUS WAVI Transmitter and Receiver, they are very non-descript boxes both measuring at 9.5 x 6.7 x 1.1. The WAVI transmitter has a LED for Power and Wireless connectivity on the top front on the box, while a USB to connect to the PC, HDMI, DC-In, Power button, and Reset button are all on the rear of the WAVI.

The WAVI Receiver has a Power LED, and a wireless indicator on the front, while the back contains a LAN port (for firmware update only), two USB ports, an HDMI port, DC-In Port, Power Button, and Reset Button.

We were using Windows 7 Ultimate on a 64-bit Intel Core i7, but we needed to install the WAVI driver on our machine before anything else. After the driver was installed, we connected the USB from the PC to the WAVI Transmitter and the HDMI cable from our RADEON video card to the WAVI.

The connection for the WAVI Receiver could not be simpler since all we cared about initially was getting a picture and sound. The HDMI directly to our HDTV did the trick.

After powering both WAVI devices, there are a few moments of handshaking that occurs and then the picture of the PC is displayed on the HDTV.
