Overclocking

With a factory overclocked card, anything beyond that is simply a bonus when it comes to overclocking. Though all of the enthusiasts out there know, there’s usually a little more left if you can squeeze it out.

MSI 9800GT

Starting at a Core of 660MHZ, Memory of 950 MHz (x2), and a Shader Clock of 1625MHz, the 9800GT was able to do well in most games at medium to high settings.

MSI 9800GT

Pushing it northward a little at a time, we found that we could get a stable overclock of 725, 1000 (x2), and 1785 from the Core, Memory, and Shader clocks respectively. Not a bad boost for a factory overclocked card. At these settings, we were able to run all the games and benchmarks without a hiccup, and as we’ve seen the results weren’t too bad for a card in this price range.
