E3 Coverage - Where's the Hardware?
In the past hardware companies such as Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Dell, and Logitech have participated, but with ESA’s downsizing of the event, such hardware manufacturers are missing and frankly it worries us. There has been a trend in gaming the past few years of PC hardware being put on the back burner with software publishers and a very strong migration toward consoles. Think about the major gaming releases of 2008 (Metal Gear Solid 4, Halo 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, Super Mario Galaxy) and we see none of them were developed for the PC platform.
In fact, when you do the research and look at top 50 (sales) software titles, there are only 4 PC titles: The Sims, World of Warcraft, Half-Life, and Myst…Myst?!?! What is even more depressing is that looking down the list, you will see a total of 5 PC titles in the top 100.
Legit Reviews hopes to gain a little bit of insight with what the software publishers and any hardware vendors are planning for PC enthusiasts for 2008 and beyond. Microsoft has already had their opening press conference and for those looking for the next best thing for the Xbox platform, you are sure to be excited that Microsoft is looking to be more Wii-ish. Unless you are a Final Fantasy fan, there was very little in breaking news from Microsoft for PC enthusiasts. *Sigh*
Be sure to follow our E3 coverage as we attempt to talk to as many companies as possible. Let us know if you have a question or a specific comment that you would like us to forward.
